Service Description

Join us on Sunday, May 29th, 2022 for an Alvar walking tour to identify and learn about unique birds. The Carden Alvar is home to over 230 species of birds like the elusive loggerhead shrike, bobolink, eastern meadowlark and golden-winged warblers. Many of these birds are designated ‘special concern, threatened and/or endangered.’ We’ll start at the Nature Centre and talk about the distinctive characteristics of an Alvar. We’ll then take a short drive to one of the trailheads in the Carden Alvar. This walk will be led by the renowned Bob Bowles. Bob is an environmentalist, a naturalist, and an expert birder. For over 50 years, Bob has studied, researched, and officiated several bird, butterfly and dragonfly counts. Bob will guide us on our walk, identifying the bird population and listening to their song. Sunday, May 29th, 2022 9:00 AM. – 12:00 PM Cost $30.00 per person You will need: Appropriate footwear for wet and muddy patches, long sleeves, long pants and mosquito netting to help with bugs, poison ivy and hot sun, a hat, lots of water, a snack, camera and binoculars. The Nature Conservancy of Canada and its partners manage and protect the Carden Alvar.
